Three bits of fiber expansion news, and one new data center: Arcadian Infracom is one step closer to its anticipated longhaul build out in the Rockies and Southwest. The upstart infrastructure provider has attained PUC authority from the State of Arizona. With that final regulatory hurdle now cleared, the company is moving ahead with the final engineering survey and the permitting for its proposed 1,300 route mile buildout. Arcadian’s plan is to connect Denver, Phoenix, and Salt Lake City via unique and diverse routes while bringing fiber to underserved rural and tribal communities along the way, such as the Navajo Nation. 123NET has picked up some metro dark fiber business up in Michigan. The data center and network operator has signed up an unnamed Tier-1 carrier for 52 miles of dark fiber in the greater Grand Rapids metro area. The newly constructed ring will enable that Tier-1 carrier to better serve its customers in the area, but will also get 123NET closer to a wide array of potential businesses and other opportunities in the region.Northern Data AG has officially opened its first data center in Frankfurt, Germany. The new location is part of the company’s spread of GPU clusters, which include locations in the Netherlands, Scandinavia, and Canada. From its Frankfurt location the company plans to work with University Frankfurt and GSI Helmholtzzentrum Darmstadt on feasibility studies for high performance computing.
And Lumen Technologies has invested in its network south of the border. The global network operator has added new metro reach in Guadalajara, Monterrey, and Mexico City while adding connectivity to three new cities. The expansion triples the company’s fiber footprint in the country, which connects with its US network and is Central and South American networks via terrestrial connections in Texas and via the PAC cable system.
